Are You Falling Asleep at the Wheel of Life? - Loren Lahav | STAY TRUE CEO

Are You Falling Asleep at the Wheel of Life?

We are in the best time in history in so many ways.

We have resources that our parents and grandparents didn’t have and could never have dreamed up in a million years.

Knowledge is just a Google away, skills can be learned on YouTube and we can carry a thousand books with us in one lightweight device.

We can share ideas and lend each other support on blogs, forums and social media platforms.

Whether you need help building your business or help with a parenting challenge, that guidance is out there—and is easy to find.

There’s just no excuse for not taking advantage of everything we have at our fingertips these days.

So are you making the most of this amazing time we’re living in?

Are you building the life that you want—or are you falling asleep at the wheel?

It’s normal to get so busy that we start going through the motions.

Here’s how to regain control of your life, so you’re speeding towards your goals:

1. Laser focus.

Set your intentions. What is your dream? What do you want your life to look like?

Then, put your attention on it and take action. Be deliberate with what you do.

I know how hard it can be to focus sometimes. I’m definitely guilty of getting distracted and spending too much time on things that aren’t moving my business forward. But it’s crucial that you find a way to limit distractions and lock into what you’re doing.

Set your intentions for the day. What are the must-do items?

When it’s time to complete these tasks, turn off all distractions. Get off of Facebook and put your phone on silent. You can even put on noise-canceling headphones or listen to the sound of rain to get you into the zone.

Then, do exactly what you set out to do. Complete those must-do items. Make it your intention for the day to cross all those items off of your list. When you’re done, you’ll know that you did everything you could to drive your life forward in the direction that you want.

Laser focus is not easy. It takes daily effort. But that’s exactly what it takes to achieve your goals!

2. Maximize your resources.

I love sharing photos on social media and texting my friends as much as the next girl, but there’s a lot of other ways to use technology that can propel our lives forward.

The internet is completely changing the way people work. More people are saying goodbye to traditional 9-to-5 jobs and becoming freelancers or entrepreneurs, since the internet has made it easier for us to reach potential clients.

Technology has completely changed my business. I can now do one-on-one or group coaching calls with people all over the world. And whenever I travel, my entire business comes with me. As long as I have my phone with me, I’m in business!

But you don’t have to become a speaker or a coach like me. Between Etsy, eBay, YouTube and other platforms, “work” looks a lot different than it used to.

You can run a business out of your home with just a laptop and an internet connection—which means low overhead and a chance to be at home with your kids.

Heck, you can even rent your car out for extra money if you want!

There’s also support systems out there to help you. Pepperlane is a community specifically for mothers who want to start their own businesses, and they help and hire each other along the way!

Embrace all the ways technology can help you in your life. Take advantage of your phone alerts to manage your important tasks. Rent out your home with Airbnb and travel the world. Learn a foreign language with Duolingo. Get a full workout at home by watching YouTube exercise videos or Beachbody on Demand.

Take advantage of all the ways technology can enrich your life and help you achieve your goals!

3. Outsource.

You know all those annoying tasks that you need to get done—but hate doing? Outsource them!

Technology has made it so easy to do this, which means that you have more time to do what matters to you most, like working on high-level business tasks or spending time with your family and friends.

Here’s just a few ways you can outsource tasks:

  • If you’re struggling with coming up with meal plans and cooking for your family every week, sign up for a meal delivery service like Blue Apron or Hello Fresh. It’s more expensive than doing all the shopping yourself, but it’s cheaper and often healthier than takeout.
  • If you have administrative tasks in your business that are not the best use of your time, hire a Virtual Assistant, someone who works with you remotely on a contract basis. You can also hire a Task Rabbit, someone in your local community who you hire on a per-project basis. Both of these options are much more affordable than hiring an employee.
  • Even shopping for your cute outfits can become a lot easier with subscription boxes like Le Tote or Stitch Fix. (And cheaper, if you tend to shop a lot!)
  • If cash is low, don’t forget good old-fashioned bartering. Teach someone a skill or swap your artwork in exchange for help around the house or office.

4. Work hard—with no regrets!

You set your intentions, used your resources wisely and outsourced unimportant tasks. Now it’s time to really get to work.

Leave it all on the field. See what great things you can accomplish when you focus and push yourself.

Are you ready to see what you’re capable of? (I am! :))

5. Don’t be afraid to pivot.

It’s okay to change your mind about what you want. You may have had a great idea for a project, only to realize later on that your heart wasn’t in it.

Have the courage to change your idea or move onto something new altogether. You never know—one idea may lead to a different and even more amazing idea down the line!
