Okay, you Easter Bunnies out there! It’s time to hip hop over to your favorite Easter tradition… the Easter Egg Hunt. It’s a time for eggs… lots of eggs! Brightly decorated eggs. Chocolate eggs. Plastic eggs filled with surprises. Even colorful jelly beans help boost sales during this season.
The tradition of painting hard-boiled eggs during springtime pre-dates Christianity. In many cultures around the world, the egg is a symbol of new life, fertility and rebirth. Before the resurrection of Christ, some argue ancient Pagans observed the Spring Equinox as the return of the sun God – a rebirth of light and an emergence from the lean winter. For Christians, the Easter egg is a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. A beloved tradition in the Orthodox and Easter Catholic churches is painting Easter eggs that are dyed red to represent the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on the cross. The hard shell of the egg represents the sealed Tomb of Christ, and cracking the shell represents Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.
Traditions of the Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Egg Roll
Two popular egg-related traditions are Easter egg hunts and Easter egg rolling. As many of you are aware, and probably experienced, an Easter egg hunt involves hiding eggs so children can run around and find them on Easter morning. The rolling of eggs is a symbolic re-enactment of the rolling away of the stone from Jesus’ tomb. In fact, the Easter Egg Roll is an annual event in the United States, held on the White House lawn each Monday after Easter. On Monday, April 22, First Lady Melania Trump will host the 141stannual Easter Egg Roll, a timeless tradition that dates back to 1878 under the Administration of President Rutherford B. Hayes.
A Rebirth of Your Life
In the spirit of rebirth and new life, and in celebration of Spring, I have an invitation for you to do a check-in of your life and assess if there are areas that you need to either let go of, Tuneup, or reimagine. Maybe it’s time to break out of the confines of your (egg) shell that has been limiting you from reaching your potential because of silly beliefs. Put one hand on your heart and one on your belly and take a deep breath. As you release, take out your journal and tune in to your True Self.
Here are some areas to consider:
- What is working great in your life?
- What is causing you challenges?
- What really excites and juices you?
- What causes you anxiety when you are doing it?
- Who in your life do you love spending time with?
- Who is no longer bringing value and growth into your life that you need to bless away?
- What are dreams that you have yet to fulfill?
And to really drive home who you are at your core, let’s do the “I AM” Exercise. In your journal, write “I am” at least ten times down the left side of the page. Then, with no filters, start writing down who you are. To view this exercise in its entirety, turn to page 5 of Life Tuneups, https://lorenlahav.com/product/life-tuneups/
Here are some examples:
I am playful.
I am magical.
I am grateful.
I am resilient.
I am generous.
I am intelligent.
I am healthy.
